Sexual Abuse
and Trauma
Sexual trauma can have significant and long-lasting effects on an individual. It often results in conditions such as Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), where individuals relive their traumatic experiences through flashbacks, nightmares, and severe anxiety. Other common symptoms include depression, self-blame, and a pervasive sense of distrust toward others. Many survivors also grapple with feelings of guilt and shame, questioning why the trauma happened to them and if they somehow could have prevented it. These emotions can be paralyzing, preventing many from seeking the help they desperately need. But as challenging as it can be to face these responses head-on, addressing them is the first step to healing, and it is something you do not have to do alone.
What To Expect
When you come to see me, you'll find a safe, empathetic space where you can begin to unpack the weight of your trauma. Our sessions will be centered around understanding and processing your experiences, helping you reclaim control over your life. We will address the impact of trauma on your daily functioning, relationships, and self-perception, working together to rebuild a sense of safety and trust.
One of the primary techniques I use is EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). This evidence-based approach has been proven to help individuals process and resolve traumatic memories. EMDR uses guided eye movements or other bilateral stimulation to enable the brain to reprocess traumatic information. I also use, when applicable, IFS (Internal Family Systems) and other evidence-based methods to help clients separate themselves from their trauma-related thoughts. By doing so, it helps reduce the emotional charge associated with these memories, allowing you to gain new perspectives and the freedom to begin moving forward.
Remember, healing is not only possible but also within your reach. Together, we will work towards transforming your pain into strength and hope and finding the peace of mind and tranquility in life you deserve.
Let's start this important work together. Let's connect to begin your path to recovery and reclaim the life you deserve.
